Roof insurance claims in North Carolina

The general claim process is on the main guide. This page adds the North Carolina hail record and the state's Index figures so a settlement or a quote can be checked against local data.

The hail record, 2023 to 2026

NOAA's Storm Events database lists 425 county-level hail events in North Carolina in that window across 86 of the state's counties, 342 of them with stones of one inch or more. The most-reported counties:

The calculator's address lookup returns the same records for the county of any North Carolina address, with dates, times and reported stone size, so a homeowner can put a date of loss beside the public record before calling the insurer.

What the numbers mean for a claim

The North Carolina Index figure is $455 per square for architectural shingles ($358 to $551), installation only. Metro figures for Charlotte, Raleigh and the other nine BLS areas are on the state page. An adjuster's scope that prices installation well below the low end for the right metro deserves a question; one inside the range is ordinary.

Two North Carolina-specific points to check on your own policy and with the NC Department of Insurance, since we do not give legal advice: whether the policy applies a separate wind-and-hail deductible (a percentage of the dwelling limit), and whether the roof has been moved to an actual-cash-value schedule because of its age. Both are printed on the declarations page or its endorsements.
