About Roof Cost Index

Roof Cost Index is a publication of Thomas Town Digital, a marketing agency that works with home-service contractors. We built it because the roofing cost figures on the big home-services sites are national averages with no method behind them, and homeowners in Charlotte and Chicago are not paying the same price.

The site does three things. It publishes the Index: cost per square for every state and 263 metro areas, rebuilt each quarter from cited cost tables and the Bureau of Labor Statistics roofer wage survey, with a changelog and a JSON download. It runs a calculator on top of that data, with a public-GIS footprint lookup where a county publishes one. And it matches homeowners with vetted roofers, one roofer per request, at no charge.

We do not roof. There is no crew, no truck, no office you can drive to. No roofer pays to appear in the data and partner status has no effect on any number. The methodology page lists every source and every assumption; if you find an error, the contact form reaches the editorial team.
